Avoiding Discrimination in Estimating Damages

DESCRIPTION– This hour-long virtual session will discuss best methods for calculating personal economic damages while avoiding race and gender discrimination. California has passed legislation calling for damage estimates that are not based upon race, ethnicity, and gender. The District of Columbia is considering similar legislation. Mathur and Paige will discuss the five criteria for evaluating options in making such calculations and five options experts might choose. In the end, they will discuss the option they believe best meets the expectations of this legislation.
CONTINUING EDUCATION– Attendance at this presentation will add 1.0 CEU for the CEA. One can also provide continuing education credit to CRC, ABVE as an example – attendees who complete the evaluation form will be provided a Certificate of Completion to forward to their organizations for consideration of potential credit.
